Matt Barnhardt Recovery Specialist & Substance Abuse Therapist (CSAT, CTP)

Matt Barnhardt is an internationally accredited Substance Abuse Therapist, certified by the Asia Pacific Certification Board and the International Association of Trauma Professionals. With over 10 years of clinical experience, Matt brings a strong foundation in addiction treatment and mental-health support to The Warmth Rehab.

Originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Matt began his career working with high-risk youth and individuals struggling with substance dependency. In 2013, he relocated to Thailand, where he has since become a respected and trusted professional within the recovery community — helping clients from around the world build lasting sobriety.

Matt specializes in both drug and alcohol addiction treatment methods and is skilled in non-12-step and 12-step therapeutic frameworks. He ensures each client receives highly personalized care and meets them exactly where they are in their recovery journey.

His clinical expertise includes:

  • Addiction and alcohol recovery methods
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) groups and weekly process groups— including “What is Addiction?” and “What is Trauma?”
  • Failure to launch and behavioral challenges
  • ODD, ADHD, anxiety, and depression
  • Sober living and relapse-prevention strategies
  • Detox transition support and structured aftercare planning
  • Family therapy, communication coaching, and emotional regulation
  • Self-esteem, motivation, and confidence-building
  • Healthy peer relationships and social engagement

Matt plays a critical role in supporting clients as they move from medical detox or inpatient treatment into sober living — guiding them with structure, empathy, and accountability. He has led aftercare and family programs for over a decade, maintaining weekly communication with families so they remain involved and informed throughout their loved one’s healing process.

Believing that recovery should be empowering and enjoyable, Matt frequently organizes positive, sober excursions to help clients reconnect with life — demonstrating that fun, friendships, and fulfillment exist without drugs or alcohol.

Families routinely share that Matt’s compassion, understanding, and consistency create a recovery experience that is far more impactful than other programs their loved ones attended in Canada or Thailand.

As someone in long-term recovery himself, Matt uses his lived experience to build trust and inspire hope. His passion for golf has encouraged many clients to discover new hobbies, new routines, and a renewed sense of purpose — reinforcing that life beyond addiction is rich, meaningful, and full of possibility.
